Maison Baguès rigorously upholds the historic crafts that have built its reputation since 1840: chasing, fine ironwork, goldsmith’s soldering and fitting, gold and silver leaf gilding, subtle patinas, and the setting of Bohemian crystal or rock crystal. Passed down from hand to hand, the craftsmen’s skills bring the Maison’s iconic creations to life: from the Parrot and Foliage chandeliers and wall sconces of the 1920s to the contemporary pieces made in the Tinchebray workshops today.
FOUNDRY
Baguès carries on the craft of lost-wax and sand casting. The workshop holds a large collection of finely chased models in every style (Louis XV, Louis XVI, Empire…).
BRONZE CHASING
Chasing is used to retrace and refine the motifs of a piece, or to give them texture. The chaser precisely redraws the ornamental motifs in relief or intaglio, such as arabesques, foliage, shells, lion heads…
“A love of work well done” is our raison d'être. The Baguès spirit is a gesture passed on before it is ever taught.
IRONWORK
The ironworker heats the steel until it glows, at the forge or with a torch. The metal is then bent and shaped by hand following Maison Baguès’s templates and drawings.
ASSEMBLY
A chandelier can be made up of hundreds of parts. All these elements are assembled with particular attention to fitting and joining. This stage calls on several techniques: drilling, milling, turning, hand filing, mechanical or hot assembly.
CRYSTAL SETTING
Crystals diffuse the light and are carefully chosen for their quality, colour, rarity and cut. In the workshop, setting the crystals, mainly Bohemian or rock crystal, remains handwork that calls for particular care.
GILDING AND FINISHING
Each light fitting is then decorated. For fine ironwork pieces, gold or silver leaf gilding. For bronzes, more than 30 finishes, including patina (hot or cold), silver, nickel or 24-carat gilding.
ELECTRIFICATION
All our light fittings are electrified in our workshop. The wiring must be as discreet as possible, comply with the electrical standards of each country and provide the expected level of lighting (specific bulbs, LED strips or micro-spots on request…)
THE BAGUÈS SPIRIT
Engraved on every piece, the Baguès seal is the Maison’s distinctive hallmark. It authenticates the piece and identifies an original model, made and assembled in our workshops.
THE WORKSHOP
In the workshop, each craftsman looks after the next, faithful to a shared memory. This patient transmission, carried by the same family since 1840, shapes the Maison’s daily standards and its constant attention to the making of every piece. Baguès is proud to hold the “Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (Living Heritage Company) label, a testament to its historic crafts and their transmission over time.
Baguès’s master craftsmen combine age-old techniques with today’s tools — 3D design, CNC machining, LED integration — to bring precision, mastery of materials and refined execution to every creation. The workshops, less than three hours from Paris, allow responsive follow-up and direct contact with the craftsmen.
